Stitches of Resilience: Emma's Story

For Kelsi Gulig, Ascension Sacred Heart has always been a source of comfort and care. All three of her daughters, including Emma, were born there, and it has been their go-to place for medical needs, from regular visits to their pediatrician to even scarier moments to the emergency room.

Taking your child to the emergency room is scary and stressful for any parent. Kelsi recalls their first ER visit with Emma. “My immediate concern for Emma when she was hurt was pain control. I wanted my daughter to be comfortable and not scared. But I was also worried about her long-term healing from stitches.”

During the visit, a child life specialist was in the room with them, actively working to distract Emma while the doctor and nurses did their job. “The doctor was so kind and made me feel like everything was going to be okay,” Kelsi shares. “I will never forget that moment of empathy I was given by the entire team.”

Reflecting on their experience, Kelsi says, “Pensacola is really lucky to have a children's hospital. The care and compassion we received at Sacred Heart made all the difference. We’re so grateful to have this wonderful facility close to home.”
