International Paper Grants Hope for New Mothers in Need

International Paper’s Pensacola Mill recently awarded $57,000 in grants through its International Paper Foundation, supporting 18 local organizations focused on education, hunger, health and wellness, disaster relief, and sustainability. Among this year’s recipients, Sacred Heart Foundation received $5,000 to support its Women’s Clinics and Maternal Health Bags initiative, which aims to address the essential postpartum needs of vulnerable mothers in the community.

The grant from International Paper will enhance the efforts of Sacred Heart’s maternal health navigator, who works closely with postpartum mothers at high risk of complications. The Maternal Health Bags contain critical hygiene items such as maternity underwear, soap, nursing pads, sanitary pads, and a tote bag. These simple yet impactful items promote safer transitions from pregnancy to postpartum by reducing the risk of infections and improving overall maternal health. This initiative exemplifies the partnership between Sacred Heart and the International Paper Foundation in creating tangible benefits for the community.

Whitney Fike, regional communications manager for International Paper, emphasized the company’s commitment to fostering positive change. “Through these grants, we aim to drive positive change, investing not just in projects but in the overall well-being of our community,” said Fike. This sentiment aligns with Sacred Heart’s mission to provide compassionate care and critical resources to those in need, especially new mothers navigating the challenges of postpartum recovery.

Since 1952, the International Paper Foundation has been committed to addressing critical needs in the communities where its employees live and work. The foundation’s support of Sacred Heart’s Maternal Health Bags underscores its dedication to improving health and wellness. Together, International Paper and Sacred Heart are building a healthier future for families in Pensacola, one mother at a time.
