Meet Natalee: Our 2025 CMN Champion

Posted: Jan 13, 2025

In August of 2022, the Hoffman family’s world was forever changed in a way they could never have anticipated. Their six-year-old daughter, Natalee, who had always been filled with joy and laughter, began to experience some slight stomach discomfort. But when a small, persistent lump appeared on the side of her abdomen, the family’s worry deepened.

With their hearts racing and fears mounting, they rushed Natalee to the Studer Family Children’s Hospital. The hospital staff moved swiftly to conduct a series of emergency tests. The results, however, were heart-wrenching. The lump was identified as a neuroblastoma tumor on Natalee’s kidney—a diagnosis no parent ever wants to hear.

As the days unfolded, the Hoffman family found themselves navigating a whirlwind of emotions and decisions. They had to come to terms with the fact that their vibrant little girl would be embarking on an arduous journey. Natalee’s treatment plan was aggressive and involved. Over the next several months, she endured 15 rounds of chemotherapy at the Bear Family Foundation Pediatric Oncology Center for Hope within the walls of Studer Family Children's Hospital. Each session was a test of her courage and strength, and with every needle and infusion, Natalee’s bravery shone through.

Following chemotherapy, Natalee underwent surgery to remove her affected kidney. The days that followed were filled with a mixture of emotions as the family waited anxiously for news of Natalee’s recovery. When the results finally came in, they were met with relief and gratitude. Natalee was in remission.

Today, as they reflect on those harrowing days, the Hoffmans are filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude. Natalee, now a little older and even more remarkable, is thriving. Her mother describes her as a whirlwind of strength, creativity, and determination—traits that have only grown stronger through her experience. Natalee’s laughter, once again, fills their home with joy, and her spirit continues to inspire everyone around her.

The Hoffman family’s journey through illness and recovery has been a testament to their unbreakable bond and the extraordinary courage of their young daughter. Natalee’s story is one of hope, resilience, and the power of love, a reminder of the strength that can emerge even in the darkest of times.
