Tyler’s Triumph
When Emily Ley’s 9-year-old son Tyler started experiencing persistent eye irritation and swelling, she turned to Studer Family Children’s Hospital for help. For Emily, it was an easy decision, as the hospital had been their family’s trusted choice for years. “I respect its fantastic reputation and have had wonderful experiences with its physicians and staff,” she says.
Tyler was diagnosed with vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC), an allergic eye condition causing itching, redness, and tearing non stop in both of his eyes. Under the care of Dr. Casey Mickler and his dedicated team, Tyler received exceptional care. Despite his initial nervousness, Dr. Mickler and his staff quickly put Tyler at ease. Emily fondly remembers Scooter, a medical staff member, who always greeted Tyler by name and reassured him during each visit. “Scooter was personable, friendly, and always remembered Tyler’s name. He always reassured Tyler he was doing a great job and that he was in excellent hands.”
Thanks to Dr. Mickler and his team, Tyler’s VKC is now under control and unlikely to reoccur. The attentiveness and compassion they provided made a significant difference, ensuring Tyler felt safe and cared for throughout his treatment. Throughout his visits, Tyler showed remarkable toughness and courage, inspiring everyone around him with his bravery and resilience.
